UWA was established in 1911 as Western Australia's first university. It remains the State's premier university and one of Australia's most prestigious educational institutions. The Good Universities Guide 2001 has given UWA 5 star ratings for prestige, research performance, staff qualifications, student demand, gender balance and positive graduate outcomes. The stunning 65-hectare campus, with its impressive Romanesque architecture and beautifully landscaped gardens, is located only 5km from the city centre. With a total student population of 14,687, including 1,779 international students (2000), UWA provides an idyllic campus life. Students have access to libraries, an extensive range of campus services, and excellent sports and recreational facilities to balance the demands of study. Activities include a wide range of sports, general interest clubs and societies, cafes, theatres and museums. |
